Today is as good a day as any to start my life as a blogger. I know the real next step is to start taking pictures with a digital camera and really document my life. Today, I want to pen my thoughts on the privilege of living in this great country.
The 4th of July has alway been my favorite holiday. It started out as a fun family tradition that even trumped Christmas. It's filled with a parade, a patriotic program, a fantastic rodeo, and occasionally a good BBQ. It's filled with memories of service to others and a desire to share my traditions with others.
As I'm getting older, I'm getting more sentimental. The patriotic program is the highlight of my day, which is where we honor our veterans and the founding of this great country. Both of my grandfathers served during WWII. My Grandpa Gustin died when I was just old enough to have picture memories of him. My Grandpa By, passed away just a few short years ago. They never really talked about their experiences, but they went into it with the right attitudes because they came back dedicated to serving their country. That legacy lives on in their children and grandchildren and we feel honor and duty bound to serve our countries and our communities. Next to serving our God, I think there is no more noble sacrifice that serving one's country. I can't thank them enough for their service abroad and close to home.
The 4th of July is now a day when I mourn the passing of loves ones who've served their country with honor, as well as a day to celebrate the privilege of living in this great nation. What an honor!
